Local Life Third Fridays Downtown Overland Park

By Gail Keller - Macaroni Kid JoCo August 25, 2016
I confess. Last Friday was the first time I ever went to Local Life Third Fridays Downtown Overland Park. I was looking for something to do with Grace (11) for girls' night out with one of our mom/daughter friends.

The Downtown OP website says "Local Life during Third Fridays are a lively and fun way to explore your favorite Downtown businesses and discover new ones. Whether it's food or drink sampling, live music, cooking demos or giveaways,  you can always discover something fun and unique while you're out and about shopping during Local Life!" I couldn't agree more!

We started out browsing in Penny Lane Vintage Market which has some really cool stuff. The girls were hysterical playing with the old-fashioned rotary telephones. I had these growing up and forgot that my daughter probably has never seen one. They couldn't believe how long it took to dial someone's number. LOL.

We then headed to the Culinary Center of Kansas City for free wine, beer and food samplings. Of course we moms had to taste everything. The girls were getting antsy but then I spotted a bean bag toss game and parked them over there while we big girls finished our samples.

The kids were obviously getting hungry so we headed down to Papa Keno's Pizzeria for a slice. We scored a table and it only cost us $5 for the girls to score 2 stuffed animals out of one of those infamous claw machines.

We next headed for Ten Thousand Villages as we knew the girls would have fun looking at all the amazing stuff for sale. We spent so much time browsing we unfortunately were running late. I really wanted to get to The Upper Crust Pie Bakery for dessert but we were too late. The shop was closed and lightening warnings were flashing on my phone. We made it to the car right before it started pouring.

We WILL BE BACK!
