In recent years we have enjoyed such amazing, unique shows for the Jewish High Holidays at the Temple, Congregation B'nai Jehudah in Overland Park. The kids get to see the greater-than-life sized puppets tell some amazing moral stories delivered in a special, loving, light-hearted manner.
Mesner Puppets opens its 2014-15 Season of family-oriented plays October 1 at the Glenwood Arts Theater in Overland Park. This notes the first time that the professional puppet theatre company will start a new season at its Johnson County, KS venue. The show, Little Red Riding Hood, will run through October 4th at 10 a.m. each day, then move to the Mesner Studio in Kansas City, MO October 8-12 weekdays at 10 a.m. and 12 noon, Saturday at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., and Sunday at 2 p.m.
The fairy tale of the little girl, her grandmother, and a big bad wolf gets the Paul Mesner makeover in this contemporary adaptation. Little Red's counter-culture grandmother enjoys yoga and organic food from the forest. Little Red herself is not only fashionable in her hood and hip glasses, but she's also trained in the martial arts. So watch out Mr. Wolf!
Tickets are $9 for children, $12 for adults. Discounted tickets are offered to Mesner Puppets Members, and with a new Season Coupon Book. It contains 10 general admission vouchers for children or adults, and in any combination of season plays and ticket quantities. The Coupon Book sells for $80 ($8 per ticket); Members ($25 for Basic and $50 for Family) pay only $6 for children, $8 for adults. Both programs offer “no fees” for online ticketing.
