Trash to Treasure with Grace

By Grace Keller - Macaroni Kid JoCo June 11, 2015
Hi and welcome back to another craft with Trash to Treasure! My next craft is very simple and fun to  make. It is a homemade dog toy. Even if you don't have a dog you can still make it to give to friends or family with  dogs.  You  can also donate them to dog shelters.

Materials:
  • 2 old kid's t-shirts (I used ones that were too small and in bad shape to give to charity)
  • strong tape
  • scissors

Instructions:

Step 1: First,
cut off the bottom hem and the top part, so you just have the part of the shirts that covers your stomach

Step 2: Next,
make a slit at the bottom of the shirts about 2  inches high.

Step 3: Then, cut horizontally, side-to-side and make strips that are 2 inches high

Step 4: Repeat step 3 until you make a total of 9 strips (enough to make 1 dog toy)

Step 5: Take three strips and tape down together on a hard surface. Make three separate bundles of three strips.

Step 6: Braid the three strips leaving about 3 inches unbraided at both ends. Repeat for the other two bundles.

Step 7: Remove tape from bundles and re-tape all three braids together.  Braid the three braids into 1 large braid.

Step 8: Remove tape. Tie knots in both ends of the braid. Make sure to pull hard so it does not untie.

I hope you enjoyed my craft! I would love to hear what you thought of this craft. Leave a comment below.

See you next time and don't forget, one man's trash is another man's treasure!
