The battle is real, getting your kids off their electronic devices! Here are some ideas to get you out of the house.

Tell the venues that Macaroni Kid sent you! NOTE: some activities require advance registration or ticket purchase. 


Arbor Day Poster Contest - Kids ages 6 - 12 can go to the Overland Park Arboretum and make a poster to enter in the contest.

Birding - Kids 8+ can sign up to make a wooden birdhouse at Home Tweet Home on March 13th at the Overland Park Arboretum 

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day - The holiday is on March 17th but parades start on March 11th around the metro. See our article

Dance Camp - Pinnacle Gymnastics in Shawnee is offering a Disney Dance Camp on March 12th for ages 4-8 and a FUNdamental Dance Camp on March 14th for ages 8+.

Eat a Cookie - Kids of all ages can stop by the Indian Creek Library Olathe on March 15th or the Downtown Olathe LIbrary on March 16th to decorate and eat a cookie.

Fish Fest - Stop by Scheels Overland Park Fish Fest on March 10th. 

Geocahe - Kids 7-11 (with adult) can enjoy GeoKids at the Overland Park Arboretum on March 14th and the entire family can participate in GeoArborteum on March 16 

Happening History - Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm celebrates Spring Break Living History with 1860's themed activities March 15-17th. 

Indoor Swimming - Treat the kids to an indoor pool play date at one of the community centers. Blue Valley Activity Center, Matt Ross Community Center and the Olathe Community Center all have pools!

Just For the Boys - Pinnacle Gymnastics in Shawnee is offering a Boys' Athletic Camp on March 12th-14th for boys 7-14.

Kansas City Attractions - You can leave JoCo and head downtown. Special events include Pi Day on March 14th at Science City, the Art of the Brick exhibition at Union Station, Kansas City Zoo Zootastik Learning Fest on March 10th-11th and St. Patrick's Day at the Zoo March 17-18th, and the Crown Center Girl Scout Cookie Construction Display running March 3-24th.


Library Time - Spring Break is a great time to visit a branch you have never been too. There are 14 Johnson County Library branches and two Olathe Public Library branches. 

Movie Time - Kids can watch a free movie on March 13th at Olathe Libraries 

Nature - Ernie Miller Nature Center has a daily spring fling program for $3. Visit the Overland Park Arboretum or one of the many parks throughout Johnson County. 

One Night of Queen - The adult and older kids may enjoy 'One Night of Queen' at the Carlsen Center on March 16th. Tickets start at $22.

Pet a Bull - Take a ride to Gardner Library on March 10th to learn that Pit Bulls are not that scary.  

Quaint Towns - You can always take a day trip to Lawrence, KS and visit the KU Natural History Museum. Take a ride to Weston, Missouri on March 11th for Second Saturdays and a Shamrock Hunt. Downtown Overland Park has its monthly Local Life - Third Fridays on March 16th


Recycle - Have the kids help you load up the car with all those old paint cans. It's Household Hazardous Waste drop-off in Olathe on March 10th.

Swing Like a MonkeyOn Tuesdays and Thursdays kids can play outside on the playsets at Backyard Specialists Olathe

Try a Spring Break Camp - Many of the Park and Recreation departments offer daily spring break camps. Pinnacle Gymnastics in Shawnee is offering daily camp where kids will participate in games, gymnastics instruction, crafts, snack, and more! Gymnasts are divided by age and experience. Ages 3 and up welcome!  March 12th-16th from 9 am - 12 pm. 
Monday 3/12 Ice Cream Camp - Participants will enjoy making and eating their own ice cream sundaes along with gymnastics, games, and activities!
Tuesday 3/13 Art Camp: Participants will enjoy art projects, gymnastics instruction, gym games, and a snack!
Wednesday 3/14 Movie Madness Camp: Participants will enjoy movie-themed fun! Including gymnastics, games, and activities!
Thursday 3/15 Wizardry and Magic Camp: Participants will enjoy a magical themed morning of gymnastics instruction, games, snacks, and much more!
Friday 3/16 Winter Games Camp: Participants will bobsled, ski, and more during our Winter Games-themed morning of gymnastics, games and a snack!

Unleash the Creativity - Make a reservation at the Black & Veatch Maker Space at the Central Resource Library

Visit a Museum - The Nerman Museum of Contemporary Art at JCCC in Overland Park is FREE. There is also the Lanesfield School (Edgerton), Oxford Schoolhouse (Leawood), Shawnee Indian Mission (Fairway), Shawnee Town Museum (Shawnee), Mahaffie Stagecoach Stop & Farm (Olathe), Kansas School of the Deaf (Olathe), Kansas City Auto Museum (Olathe), Leglar Barn Museum (Lenexa), Gardner Historical Museum (Gardner), KC Jewish Museum of Contemporary Art (Overland Park), Museum at Prairiefire (Overland Park) 

Watch the Lakes Get Stocked - JCPRD has their Trout Stocking at Kill Creek Park and Shawnee Mission Park on March 9th



Xbox - Borrow video games from the library and have a game night. 

You Can See a Show - CYT is presenting The Music Man from March 8th-11th at the Bell Cultural Center. Tickets are $9+

Zzzzz - Run the kids ragged so they will sleep in the next day.
