Another day, another playdate, and another park; we love the spring weather. This time I was searching for a good meeting spot in Lenexa. I came across Buffalo Meadows Park, it looked great. We scheduled our playdate, packed our snacks, and we were off.
Buffalo Meadows is a great park for a range of ages.
On this outing, we had kids ranging from baby to five years old. I did not know it when we selected this park for our playdate, but it is a wonderful park when you have a spread of ages. There was a low to ground playground and baby swings for the one and two years old to play on. The preschoolers could run to the bigger playground when they got bored with the smaller one. What was great about this park is that the bigger playground was still in sight from the small one. Meaning we did not have to make the little ones leave the playground they loved for the older ones to have a good time.
It is picnic and kid-friendly.
Buffalo Meadows Park has the essentials for a great park day. There is a shelter with picnic tables and conveniently located trashcans and recycling bins. There are grills near the shelter as well. They have two water fountains so you can refill those water bottles after your chasing the kids workout routine. Most importantly there are bathrooms. When I was there they also had a portable toilet that I assume is for use if you are going to enjoy a nice day before the park has turned the water back on. This is a park you could spend an extended period of time at. However, there is almost no shade here. A long park day would be better spent at Buffalo Meadows in the early spring or fall when you in need of less protection from the sun.
Buffalo Meadows is more than a playground.
Some days you just need something a little more than a playground. Buffalo Meadows Park has a trail that is fun for walking, bikes, scooters, or whatever you have thrown in your car. I cannot be the only mom that has a basket of outdoor toys permanently in my car, right? The day we went we brought along our kid-friendly binoculars. There are bird houses set up along the path so we had some fun bird watching on our walk. There is also a field that is a first come first use basis. You could bring a soccer ball or Frisbee along to use in the field. It would also be a great place for kite flying.
