Mahaffie offers a wide variety of summer camps where your child can engage in hands-on 1860s living history. Each camp offers a different theme and activities:
Farming Fun-the Critters: Saturday, June 15, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., ages 5-8. You will help staff care for our animals, share stories, create a craft, and make a snack. Cost: $15.
Eating Goober Peas: Tuesday, June 18, and/or Wednesday, June 19, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, ages 8-14. Sign up to serve in President Lincoln's Army! Learn to march, and cook a soldier's fare. Cost: $30/one day or $50 for both days. Bring your own lunch, snacks provided.
Young Lady's Academy: Tuesday, June 24, and/or Wednesday, June 25, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, ages 8-14. Mrs. Mahaffie is opening up her home as an academy for young ladies-but just for the day! Learn how to cook on a wood stove, paint with watercolors and play croquet. Cost: $30/one day or $50 for both days. Bring your own lunch, and end the day with a tea party!
Horse Camp: Monday, July 8 and Tuesday, July 9. 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 8-14. Spend a day with the Mahaffie horses as you explore the many ways horses were a part of life in the 1860s! You will help staff feed, groom, and care for our horses. Cost: $30/one day or $50 for both days. Bring your own lunch, snacks provided.
Sod Busting and Chicken Feeding: Farming 1860s Style. Wednesday, July 10 and Thursday, July 11, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., ages 8-14 Join us for 1860s farming fun as we care for animals, work in the garden, and cook up a hearty snack for farm foods. Cost: $30/one day or $50 for both days. Bring your own lunch, snacks provided.
Farming Fun-the Chores: Saturday, July 20, 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., ages 5-8. Who knew chores could be so much fun? They are at Mahaffie! Help in the garden, haul water, and play games. To finish your hard work, you will make a craft and end the day with a hearty snack. Cost: 15.
