Medical Explorers is a unique, hands-on healthcare experience perfect for students who may be interested in science or healthcare. All 30 camp sessions are in the form of medical simulation based workshops where students learn practical skills such as CPR Basics, Epi-Pen Training, Vitals, Wilderness Medicine, Sleep Hygiene, Nutrition, Suturing, Stroke Basics, Seizure Basics, Trauma Basics, Medical Mythbusters and so much more! Students also learn over 300 medical terms and get exposure to over 20 healthcare careers.
The students who really shine during camp are asked to come back and help teach the next year- so then they are able to gain healthcare leadership experience which is very difficult to come by at a younger age! This camp is taught by a team of local doctors. The curriculum was developed in 2018 by a local family medicine physician who created the program she wished she would have had in middle/high school.
The MedEx program has been taught within different KC school district, but summer camp condenses a semester worth of material into one week in a medical conference like setting. Camp enrollment includes take home items such as CPR pocket mask, penlight, re-usable water bottle, drawstring bag, hand sanitizer, daily snack, and end of camp award ceremony family picnic.
