Description

The Historic One-Room Oxford Schoolhouse, located in Ironwoods Park at 147th & Mission Road, Leawood Kansas, will hold an Old-time Stories and Fun event every Wednesday in June and July from 9:30 to 11:00 am again this year.  Each week a costumed turn-of-the-century schoolteacher will read chapters from a book of historical fiction.  The events will be of primary interest to boys and girls, 5 through 10 years of age.

This summer we will be reading several books:

          Secret School                           June 6, 13, 20, 27

          Pioneer Sisters                         July 11

          Animal Adventures                  July 18

Missouri School Days              July 11, 25

In addition to the reading, each session will include historic games, crafts or activities related to the reading.

Children may come for all nine sessions or they may select individual weeks.  The cost is $3 per session, per child.  Reservations are not necessary.

The Historic Oxford Schoolhouse is also available for programs year-round to groups of all ages by appointment any day or time, except during open house hours.  Special events and workshops are offered throughout the year.

Come by the schoolhouse to pick up the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse 2018 Events Calendar or the Interpretive Site Coalition’s Kansas City’s Passport to Adventure.  The Historic Oxford Schoolhouse is open in the summer, Tuesdays through Saturdays 10:00 am to 4:00 pm and Sundays 1:00 to 4:00 pm.
