OPPD to hold virtual trunk-or-treat celebration


The Overland Park Police Department’s annual trunk-or-treat event is going virtual for 2020.

Typically, officers host trunk-or-treaters in the parking lot at Myron E. Scafe building for a Halloween celebration and decorating contest. 

This year, the physical event is will take place in your own driveway!

This event is possible thanks to support from the Johnson County NAACP and the Overland Park Police Officers Foundation.

Register to Participate

Register to participate through Friday Oct. 16 using the online form

You can register to participate in up to two categories, including:

  • Most creative and original, which features the best use of costume and makeup
  • Scariest
  • Movie mania, the best decorations that incorporate a movie or TV show
  • Back the Blue, the best decorations supporting law enforcement personnel

All eligible entries will be entered into the People’s Choice category. Voting will be available online for the People’s Choice submissions.

The first 250 registrants will get a candy bag. Please stay tuned for updates about the candy delivery time and date.


Trick Your Trunk

It’s time to get decorating! 

Beginning Wednesday, Oct. 14, through Tuesday, Oct. 20, bring out your creative side and decorate those trunks. Don’t forget to follow the rules:

  • Decorate the trunk, tailgate or hatchback of your vehicle.
  • Trunk decorations must be kid-friendly, PG rated and suitable to our family audiences.
  • Do not decorate your trunk with themes of violence, pornography, hateful political statements, political campaign or endorsement messages, hateful imagery or inflammatory messages toward any individual or groups of people, commercial advertisements, logos, websites, or messages or any subject matter not suitable for children. Submissions featuring these topics will be disqualified from judging and will not be featured in the online public gallery.
  • Have fun and be safe!

Submit + Share

Trunk-or-treaters can submit photos of their decorated trunk, tailgate or hatchback to be considered for judging.

Send in submissions via the online form beginning Oct. 14 but before Oct. 20. 

Then snap candid pictures of your trunk decorating in progress and email them to roz.johnsonfinch@opkansas.org

If you are on social media, use the hashtag #2020TrunkOrTreatOPPD to share your trunk decor.

Vote For Your Favorite

Judging begins Wednesday, Oct. 21.

You can vote for your favorite submission in the People’s Choice category. City judges will vote for their favorites in each of the first four categories above. 

Winners will be announced online here and via social media by Tuesday, Oct. 27. First, second and third place winners in each category will get a prize.
