There is no doubt that Johnson County, Kansas is one of the best family fun communities in America. There are so many fun events this month. Trick-or-treat with police in Overland Park, dive for pumpkins in Olathe, take a train ride in Leawood, paint a pumpkin in Lenexa, see scarecrows in Shawnee, join a costume parade in Merriam, get a photo in your costume in Gardner, pin the nose on a jack-o-lantern in Fairway, take a hayride in De Soto, enter a costume contest in Edgerton, trick-or-treat indoors in Spring Hill, make creepy crafts in Roeland Park, listen to ghost stories, and so much more!

Daily Through Oct. 31

Pumpkin Hollow at Deanna Rose (Overland Park)

Horse-drawn wagon rides, corn maze, hay pyramid, hay slide and instead of sand, play in a corn box. Plus-- everyone gets to take home a pumpkin of their choice!

Mon-Fri, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sat-Sun, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

$8 - General Admission $7 - Friends of the Farmstead members (limit of 7 tickets)

Saturday, Oct. 6

Scarecrow Festival (Shawnee)

Check out scarecrows designed by various local businesses along Johnson Drive in front of Shawnee City Hall. Pumpkin painting, build your own scarecrow and other activities for the kids. Baking contest (adult and youth) for best pumpkin bread, pumpkin pie, and fruit pie.

Whimsical Woods at Ernie Miller (Olathe)

There's nothing scary about this enchanted forest. Enjoy a walk on the trail with the award-winning Nature Center staff. Costumed storybook characters will delight and entertain audiences of all ages. Meet with the Good Fairy and Forest Friends. Live animals, stories, songs, and surprises will highlight childhood favorites. Reservations are required. Group sessions begin every 15 minutes with program length ~1 hour. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held indoors.

1 - 4 pm

REGISTER in advance. $5/p, including adults, in advance or $8 on-site day of the event.

Harvest Fest (De Soto)

The event will feature a Food Truck Crawl, craft fair, vendor booths, pumpkin patch, hayrides, trick-or-treat, live music and more!

Cemetery Tours at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery (Olathe)

Our Fall Cemetery Tours take place at the Olathe Memorial Cemetery. The theme is World War I veterans. Tours last approximately one hour. Tour times are 7 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8 p.m., & 8:30 p.m. (no 8:30 p.m. tour on Saturday) Each tour is limited to 30 participants. Please dress for the weather and there is a lot of walking. Please park on the south side of the parking lot at Northview Elementary School 905 N. Walker. Thursday night is Scout night. Boy and Girl Scouts are encouraged to attend and receive a special Cemetery Tour patch.

Friday, Oct. 12

Halloween Mask Making with Brad Shaw at Oak Park Library (Overland Park)

Kids will create their own mask using papier-mache and paints. Brad will create characters with their masks and put them together in a mini-play. Arrive 15 minutes early. Best for ages K-2

Into the Night Fall Festival (Leawood)

The evening will be filled with fun for the entire family. Hayrides, Petting Zoo, Crafts, Games, Activities, Face Painting, Balloon Artists, Fortune Telling, and Refreshments. Entertainers include Dino O’Dell, Mad Science, Vida Dance Company, and Moon Pie Band.

5:30 - 9:00 pm throughout Ironwoods Park

Carloads will be charged $10.00 upon entry to the park in exchange for wristbands which will allow everyone open access to all activities, crafts, games, and entertainment without further charge.

Friday, Oct. 19

Trick-or-Cache at Antioch Park (Merriam)

Search for caches filled with candy and trinkets hidden around Antioch Park using a GPS. GPS units, a tutorial, and meal are included during this modern day scavenger hunt. Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult. Participants registering as a family will be loaned one GPS unit per family. Those registering as individuals will each be loaned a GPS unit. Costumes encouraged! If registering for the evening session, bring a flashlight. Join us after your haunted hunt for hotdogs, s'mores, and spooky stories around the fire circle across from Shelter #2.

Sunflower House Pumpkin Palooza (Shawnee)

A fundraising event that supports Sunflower House child abuse protection center. Designer-decorated pumpkin sale, Trunk or Treat, Spooktacular Bake Sale, Crafts, Games, & More

Fall Family Festival at Blue Valley Rec (Overland Park)

First 500 kids to register will receive a free treat bucket and a pumpkin worthy of decorating.

Families welcome! Carnival Games, Clowns, Face Painting, Horse-Drawn Hayrides, Huge Kites, Inflatables, Petting Zoo, Free Belfonte Ice Cream

Halloween Happenings at Merriam Marketplace (Merriam)

Let's celebrate Halloween early with a Monster Mash Party in Merriam. Halloween fun will include 9-hole mini golf course, QB Blitz inflatable, games, costume contest & special appearance by the Shawnee Mission North Repertory Theatre.

Boo 'N Brew at Town Center Plaza (Leawood)
Fun for the whole family! Ghost stories at phantom fountain (south side of Barnes & Noble). Dance with BQ Ocean Blue teen heartthrob boy band sensation. See Medusa, Guinness Book of World Record’s largest snake in captivity. Kids and pet costume contests. Trick-or-treat with participating stores. Dunk tank, carnival games, food trucks, and so much more!

Adults 21+ can also enjoy the Houlihan’s VIP Beer Garden, yard games, DJ Andy, and an adult costume contest and pumpkin carving contest with seriously big prizes! The Houlihan's VIP Beer Garden is a ticketed beer garden and is intended for 21+ age guests.

Haunted Kansas at Ernie Miller (Olathe)

As darkness falls, walk through the trails of Ernie Miller Park and listen to the stories of long ago. Characters from the past will share legends around the campfire. Expect a shiver down the spine and a mild case of goosebumps for those who dare enter the forest on this autumn evening. Group sessions begin every 15 minutes and the program is approximately one hour long. This is an outdoor event, so dress appropriately. Advance registration is required. In case of inclement weather, the program will be held indoors.

6:30 - 9:15 pm

Recommended for ages 8 and up, and all children must be accompanied by Parent/Guardian or one adult chaperone per group of 5.

$5 per person, including adults, paid in advance or $7 on-site day of the event.

Night at the Boo!seum at Museum at Prairiefire (Overland Park)

Night at the BOO!seum is back for another trick or treat extravaganza providing a fun and safe Halloween experience at the Museum at Prairiefire! This year we’re blasting off Beyond Planet Earth for a spooky space exploration of aliens and mad science for all. Visit the MAP between 4:30 and 6:30 PM for an exploration of the Great Hall, Discovery Room, Beyond Planet Earth exhibition and more in this event for children 12 and under and their families. Wear your favorite outer space and alien costumes for a chance to spin the prize wheel and win exclusive Museum at Prairiefire prizes! Make sure you stop by all 13 stations to get all the tricks, treats and mad science experiments at this year’s Night at the BOO!seum!

Enchanted Forest at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park (Lenexa)

Enjoy entertainment along the walking trail. Marionette puppets, magicians, musicians and mascot characters will delight the entire family. At the end of the trail, the kids can enjoy a hayride, pumpkin painting, inflatables and more! A small amount of trick-or-treating too.

Recommended for children up to 3rd grade.


Haunted History Hayride at Shawnee Mission Park (Shawnee)

Listen to ghost stories from the past to learn about the history of this region presented by our entertaining storyteller. As dark shadows gather around, enjoy the fire with cider and marshmallows.
6 - 8 pm

This program is recommended for ages 8 and up and must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Spooky Swim Halloween Event at Sylvester Powell Jr. Community Center (Mission)

Swim in the spooky pool with “blood red” water, “tunnel of doom” slide and a graveyard to boot. Carnival activities include a costume contest,
carnival games, inflatables and prizes. Participants must sign up for one of the two swim times. Both parents and children must pay to enter and wear wristbands for the entirety of the evening.

Trunk or Treat at St. Paul's United Methodist Church (Lenexa)

Trunk or Treat, pumpkin painting, games, contests, music and more!!! Join us for this free COMMUNITY EVENT hosted by St. Paul's United Methodist Church. This annual tradition is a fun, safe way to celebrate Halloween.

Trail of Trick or Treats (Fairway)
The trail is lined with Halloween lights and there are games for young children to play. Pumpkin bowling, potato sack races, pin-the-nose on the jack-o-lantern, miniature beanbag toss, and more. Trick-or-treat bag, breakaway neck lanyard, and two glow sticks are included.
