June 1 FREE Donut Day

June 1 Splashtactular Summerdays at Thomas A. Soetaert Aquatic Center and Splash Cove Shawnee. $4
 12:30  - 5 pm Enjoy concession specials, coordinated games, and prizes every hour. Admission is half price with a canned food donation.

June 1 Battle of the Bands Olathe
7 - 9 pm Kick-off the teen summer program with local garage bands at the Olathe Community Center Terrace. Cheer on and vote for your favorite bands. Bring your blankets and sunscreen to this outdoor event

June 1 & 2 Instrument Petting Zoo at Blues to Bach Shawnee
2 - 4 pm Geared for kids 4th-7th grade who are starting band or orchestra. Each Friday and Saturday through June, drop in for the opportunity to get your hands on the typical beginning band instruments. Try them out for weight, size, and making your first sounds! This is a great opportunity for Mom or Dad to ask questions and be a part of the process

June 2 Face Painting at Merriam Farmers' Market
The Market opens at 7 am. Face painting at 10 am. Add a little color to the market. Have one of our artists paint a design on your face the will brighten your day!


June 2 Young Eagles Rally Gardner
8 am - 12 pm The Vintage Aircraft Association Chapter 16 members will be offering general aviation (GA) rides to students ages 8 - 17. Students will have the opportunity to experience the world from a new perspective, learn about the different parts and functions of an airplane, and learn what a future in aviation could look like for them! June 2 Fishing Derby Spring Hill
9 am Enjoy some fishing and fun! There will be giveaways throughout the day, and contests for biggest fish, most fish, smallest fish, and more! Once fishing is over, enjoy a hot dog and drinks while the results are tallied.

June 2 A Day in the Park Shawnee & Olathe
10 am - 7 pm Enjoy our community’s trails, parks, and recreational spaces. Activities for the entire family throughout Shawnee Mission Park and along the adjoining Streamway trail. Free 30 minute pedal boat and canoe rentals at the Shawnee Mission Park Marina. Free admission to the Shawnee Mission Park Beach and Kill Creek Park Beach. Free 30 minute pedal boat and canoe rentals at the Kill Creek Park Marina. Food and drink concessions available for purchase at Shelter 3. Free sailboat rides and demonstrations by the Johnson County Sailing Society. 

June 2 Summer Kickoff Block Party & Outdoor Movie Edgerton
6:30 - 11 pm Enjoy "Despicable Me 3". Concessions. Inflatables and games, music by DJ Phil Davis, face painting, contests, and prizes! The Fire Department will be set up with a fun activity as well. The first 250 guests will receive a free Sheridan’s Frozen Custard treat!

June 2 Enchanted Faire Overland Park (small admission fee)
4 - 7 pm Gnomes, Fairies, Goblins, and Sprites will be frolicking in the grove. Join them in your best-enchanted costume. Enjoy treats, entertainment, photo ops and merriment for the whole family at the Enchanted Fair. Fees for treats and extras, cash only.

June 2 Overnight Fishing at Heritage Park Olathe
11 pm Grab your fishing gear and lantern for the overnight fishing! This opportunity coincides with JCPRD “Free Fishing, Boating & Archery Weekend” as well as the State of Kansas’ “Free Fishing and Park Entrance Days” at state parks whereby state fishing permits are also waived. The park will be open for fishing only and park police officers will be on duty throughout the night.

June 2 & 3 Annual Free Fishing Day Kansas
You don't need a fishing permit to fish in public waters this weekend! Trout permits are still required at Shawnee Mission Park and Kill Creek Lake.



June 2 & 3 Old Shawnee Days Ticket to Fun Shawnee
Sat 10 am - 4 pm. Sun. 11 am - 4 pm. Old Shawnee Days is a community celebration that marks the start of summer. The family-friendly weekend event features a whole host of activities and attractions. Shawnee Town 1929 museum will have a free children's program called Ticket To Fun. There are 9 stations for the children to visit and get their cards stamped after doing each activity. All kids get a prize for participating! Some of the hands-on activities are School Days in our one-room schoolhouse, marbles, horseshoes, helping with planting, doing laundry the old fashioned way, visiting our cow and chickens and making a balsa wood airplane in the spirit of Charles Lindbergh.

June 3 Lenexa Outdoor Concert Series
Sunday evenings in June at 6 pm. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and picnic dinner and enjoy a variety of music. This week is Abbey Road (Beatles tribute band)

June 3 Stems Plein Air Art Fair at the Arboretum Overland Park (small admission fee)
11 am - 4 pm Do you have a budding artist in your family? Bring them to the Arboretum to see the works of and talk with local artists.

June 4 Family Movie at Olathe Libraries
2 pm Movie The Incredibles. No registration is needed but space is limited. Tickets will be given out starting 30 minutes before the show. Kindergarten and younger must be accompanied by an adult

June 5 Funky Mama Concert at Ironwoods Park Leawood

June 5 Unexpected Productions: Improv & Sketches for Teens Overland Park
2 pm Teens 12-19, Have you ever wanted to try acting but aren’t sure what it would be like? Does memorizing a script seem like a lot of work? Come try improv! Improvisation is defined as acting without a script, but it’s so much more. We play games, we make jokes and we share our own stories and ideas, all in a fast and low-pressure environment. Bring your friends, or come alone and make some new ones. Register in advance.

4 pm Come and celebrate the benefits of bugs and other garden critters at Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead! There will be dancing, crafts, snacks and educational activities for all ages! "Cute as a bug" outfits encouraged.

June 5 Meet the Author: Megan Bannen Overland Park
6:30 pm Join us to celebrate the release of The Bird and the Blade, a new book for teens by local author Megan Bannen. Narrated by Jinghua, a former slave, it’s the story of a prince who will risk anything to save his kingdom, a princess whose impossible riddles have claimed the lives of all her would-be suitors, and the girl who brings them together with terrible consequences. Refreshments will be served. Books available to purchase from Rainy Day Books and autographs post-event. Register in advance. 

June 6 Old Time Stories and Fun at the Historic Oxford Schoolhouse Leawood
9:30 am Every Wednesday in June and July.  Each week a costumed turn-of-the-century schoolteacher will read chapters from a book of historical fiction.  The events will be of primary interest to boys and girls, 5 - 10 years of age. We will be reading Secret School on June 6, 13, 20, and 27. Each session will also include historic games, crafts or activities related to the reading. Children may come for all nine sessions or they may select individual weeks.  $3 per session, per child.

10 am This event features water games for the whole family, prepare to get wet and maybe a little messy. We will also be making ice art and enjoying icy treats. 

June 8 Star Wars Takeover at Cedar Roe Library Roeland Park
2:30 pm Join us as we hone our Jedi skills through games, crafts and other Padawan activities. Come dressed as your favorite Star Wars characters. The Resistance needs you! Ages 5-12.

June 8 Olathe Live Summer Concert at Frontier Park Olathe
7 pm Concert featuring Laith Al-Saadi with special guest Josh Hoyer. Arrive early to grab your favorite spot. Bring lawn chairs, blankets, dog on leash, coolers with non-alcoholic beverages. Purchase food and beverage at each event. 

June 8 Movie at the Mission Fairway
8 pm Enjoy the movie Sandlot at the Mission. The movie will be shown on the lawn behind the East building. Bring your lawn chairs or blanket. The movie will start at dusk, around 9 pm, and concessions will be available for purchase.

Fri 4-9 pm, Sat. 10 am - 9 pm. Entertainment and a variety of beverage & food booths. Color Run at 8 am on Saturday. A full day of activities for children, crafts and commercial booths, a car show, food, and much more! Kid zone closes at 5 pm and beer garden opens. No coolers.

June 8, 9 & 10 Greek Festival at St. Dionysios Overland Park

Market opens at 7 am. Activity at 10 am. Sample food items from the market - some you will like and some you may not choose to eat. Delicious fruits and vegetables may or may not be altered. Are you brave enough?


June 9 Get Outdoors and Fishing Derby Lenexa 
9 am - 12 pm. Fun activities, including a kids fishing derby. This event is held in conjunction with National Get Outdoors Day, which encourages you to seek out healthy, active outdoor lives and embrace our parks, forests and other public lands and waters. The fishing derby is catch and release for kids 12 and under. Prizes will be awarded for the biggest, smallest and most fish. Please bring your own equipment (a limited supply of poles will be available to borrow).

June 9 Leawood Family Stride 'N Ride
9-11 am A new event Encouraging and Educating the community about fitness and healthy transportation. Learn-to-Ride (new riders), Riding Skills Course (kids, ages 7 to 10), Mountain Bike Trail Ride, Helmet Fitting and Sales, Bike Demos, Scavenger Hunt Trail Walk (for prizes), Information on Apps to Track Your Steps, Food Trucks (healthier options), BMX Stunt Jump Demonstration,  Music by DJ Tony, Informational Booths, Free Trail Maps, Family Bike Ride (interior of the park), Escorted Ride (North Loop). June 16 Overland Park Youth Fishing Derby $5
Kids 14 and under. Check-in and registration start at 8:30 a.m. Fishing goes from 9 - 10:30 a.m. followed by awards.
The first 75 participants will receive a t-shirt, water bottle and swag bag filled with goodies.

7 pm The ukulele was one of the most popular musical instruments of the 1920’s and every year the Kansas City Ukesters make it their business to enlighten us on the high merits of its sound. Annual concerts at the Museum’s Bandstand wouldn’t be complete without their refreshing renditions of the popular music of the 20’s. Bring your lawn chairs and picnic dinner! Light refreshments provided

June 28 Hands-On Kids Art Bash at Red Rock Traditions Leawood 
9:30 am Let your kids (ages 3-10) express their creativity at this FREE event where they can interact with artists from the Kansas City Art Institute. Kona Ice will be on site and free to all attendees. Red Rock Traditions is proud to support Children’s Mercy patients by asking for in-kind donations of art supplies. Current needs include Sharpies, Crayola Model Magic, Paintbrushes, and Stickers.

More than 1,500 United States flags will greet you in downtown Merriam for the weeklong Flags 4 Freedom event June 30-July 7. Stop by Merriam Marketplace, the Irene B. French Community Center, and along Merriam and Johnson drives to view an astonishing patriotic display
